Overview: Mission is to encourage the development of technology-based businesses by: 1) providing wetlab and office space at below-market rates; 2) offering acccess to digital, fiber optic telecom services; and 3) supporting newly established companies gain access to services and financing to accelerate growth

Strategic Relationships: Technology Center is affiliated with East Carolina University Center for Applied Technology and the NCSU Industrial Extension Service (Manufacturing Extension Partnership) that maintain offices on-site, ECU Office of Technology Transfer is also available to provide assistance to companies that wish to establish collaborative relationships with ECU faculty/staff and gain access to ECU research facilities

Industries Served: Biotechnology/pharmaceutical/neutraceutical, InfoTech/e-commerce companies, and related light manufacturing

Special Notes/Restrictions: Serves technology based business. Entry requirements are a business plan, demonstrated financial capability, insurance, criminal background check. Continued tenancy dependent upon rent payment history and demonstrated progress related to business plan.

Types of Programs/Services Available:
Space: Mixed lab/office & light manufacturing: 1) 17,000 sq.ft. of wetlab/office space ranging from 200-425 sf individual offices and labs to as much as 8,000 sf units available from $7 to $15 per square foot per year (additional "shell" space can be finished out to tenant specifications within 90 days); 2) 18,000 sq.ft. of light manufacturing area (all utilities) subdivided into units as small as 2400 sf available at $3.50 to $4.50 per square foot per year

Funding: SBIR seed financing, SBA Loans, SBTDC assistance programs, and affiliation with Entrepreneurial Development Council.

Educational Resources: ECU's Center for Applied Technology and Industrial extension Service programs, PCC's Small Business Center Programs. Online and physical proximity to ECU's Joyner and Health Services Libraries

Administrative/Technology: Central receptionsist/lobby area; central mail, fax, & copier services; audio/video equipment in conference/board room; Norstar Telephone System; internet access, external and internal electronic security system*********** Shared Common/Shared wetlab equipped with freezers, refrigerators, autoclave, centrifuges, freeze dryer,

Other: Break room with hot & cold foods (microwave), common truck docks with forklift and hand lift trucks available, on-site OSHA and Hazardous (chemicals, radioactive) materials handling and disposal consultation services; access to ECU student interns from computer sciences, biochemistry, industrial technology, and many other degree programs; ECU's Office of Technology Transfer is also available to assist companies with arranging collaborative agreements with ECU faculty and staff. Additional Notes: Average length of occupancy is 3 years, maximum length is 5 years for R&D and 3 years for all others.
