Overview: The incubator encompasses 141,000 sq. ft. consisting of an 11,000 sq. ft. FDA approved food kitchen, 30,000 sq. ft. biotechnology space with 14 wet/dry labs and a core laboratory, 70,000 sq. ft. of light manufacturing space and 30,000 sq. ft. of Executive Office space. The program is a 24 month process for most companies with reduced initial rent and access to workrooms, computer labs and meeting rooms equipped with video conferencing at no additional charge.
Strategic Relationships: The incubator has relationships with 25 incubators and economic groups across a 5 state Appalachian region in order to assist companies with regional opportunities. The incubator also has signed agreements with incubators and institutions in China, Mexico, South Africa, India and Belgium in order to facilitate barrier to entry studies and help companies compete in the global marketplace. Internally, the incubator houses dedicated biotechnology staff through the North Carolina BioBusiness Center, technology commercialization staff through Tech 2020 located at Oak Ridge National Laboratories, a student business incubator and a Professional Services office staffed by 18 local private professionals ranging from patent search firms to attorneys who provide in excess of 80 hours of Pro Bono time to incubator clients per month.
