Durham-based Aldagen has created a significant franchise in tissue repair and regeneration, with an initial focus on the treatment of cardiovascular disease and peripheral artery disease. The company’s proprietary product provides identification, isolation and therapeutic administration of a unique population of adult stem cells. These therapeutic cell populations have shown impressive potential to replace lost, damaged or diseased tissues in animal models and are now being tested in human clinical trials. The company’s lead technology, Aldesort, is currently being tested at Texas Heart Institute and Duke University in clinical studies for heart failure and for critical limbs with restricted blood supply. Aldagen is successfully executing on its strategy to rapidly develop therapeutic applications in regenerative medicine.
