Quintiles Transnational Corporation
Quintiles has enjoyed a long-standing history of community leadership and civic minded actions. The Morrisville-based company is a globally recognized CRO that has positive impacted communities both locally and globally. The company’s founder and CEO, Dr. Dennis Gillings, was previously a professor in the UNC School of Public Health’s biostatistics department from 1971 to 1988. While at the school, he and others applied the latest methodologies to analyze clinical trial data for pharmaceutical companies and others. Dr. Gillings incorporated the company in 1982, and he grew the firm to become the world’s leading pharmaceutical services company with annual revenues now topping $2 billion. Earlier this year, he joined his wife, Joan, in pledging $50 million to the UNC School of Public Health, making it the largest single commitment the university has ever received. In recognition of the $50 million gift, the School of Public Health will be renamed the “Dennis and Joan Gillings School of Global Public Health.”
