Raleigh-based rPath is an open-source company developing the first platform for creating and maintaining software appliances. Launched in early 2006 by two former Red Hat executives, the company’s rBuilder technology allow software developers to create software appliances that combine an application with a tailored version of rPath Linux. Customers get the benefits of the application without the hassles of coordinating multiple maintenance streams, release schedules, and service contracts. rPath recently raised a $6.4 million Series A round of funding and received the LinuxWorld Product Excellence Award for ‘Best Systems Management Tool’ at the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo.
