Centice Corporation

Centice Corporation

Durham-based Centice is commercializing breakthrough technology spun out from Duke University's Pratt School of Engineering. Centice develops and manufactures sensor-based products for companies that make analytical instruments, biomedical devices, imaging products and security technology. Centice’s technology is applicable in many fields and results in a 100-1000x greater throughput for most types of optical measurements. In October 2004, the company raised a $3 million Series A round from The Aurora Funds, Inc. and Novak Biddle Venture Partners.

Liquidia Technologies

Liquidia Technologies

Liquidia Technologies arose from a fluoropolymer materials discovery by Professors Joseph DeSimone and Edward Samulski at UNC-Chapel Hill. The company, founded in June 2004, develops and markets applications based on its “Liquidia Material Platform” - a breakthrough in materials research that combines the properties of silicone elastomers and glass. These groundbreaking fluoropolymers are liquid at room temperature but cure to Teflon-like elastic solids when exposed to light. Liquidia’s innovations have applications in many areas, including chemical, life science, electronic and consumer goods companies.
