The annual Charles Hamner Award, now in its fourth year, recognizes exemplary vision and leadership in biotechnology. For over 20 years, Walter Daniels has been dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs in the region. Daniels focuses his practice on the corporate, financial and intellectual property needs of technology-based companies, including such matters as corporate finance, venture capital and transactions involving technology. Daniels served as Chairman of the North Carolina Technological Development Authority (NCTDA) from 1994 through 2000 and as a Director from 2000 through February 2002. He currently serves on CED’s Board of Directors and as a member of the Advisory Board of the North Carolina Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC). He was chair of Venture 1999 and Biotech 2001 conferences. In addition, he is a member of the North Carolina Biotechnology Center Advisory Committee on the Development and Transfer of Biotechnology, a Trustee of the Durham Arts Council, founding member of the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Electronics and Information Technologies Association (NCEITA), Chairman of the Governor's Task Force on Solar Law, a Director of the North Carolina Alternative Energy Corporation, a Director of the Research Triangle Park Rotary Club, and a member of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation Advisory Board.
