Reasons for winning the awardBiolex achieved one of North Carolina's largest venture funding rounds of the year when it raised $24 million in August 2003. Quaker BioVentures and Intersouth Partners led the round, which also included new investors Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation, Mitsui & Co. Venture Partners , The Dow Chemical Company, Dogwood Equity and Trelys Venture Partners. All existing investors also participated in the round, including The Wakefield Group, Kitty Hawk Capital, Franklin Street Partners, Tall Oaks Capital and Academy Centennial Fund.
