State Treasurer Richard Moore Visits CED To Talk About New Investment Authority


North Carolina State Treasurer Richard Moore spoke to a group of 35 venture capitalists and senior executives of entrepreneurial companies last week about the state's new investment authority, which allows up to five percent of pension fund money to be invested in such investments as venture capital, commodities or high-risk bonds. CED and NCBIO hosted the event to give leaders in the entrepreneurial and venture communities the opportunity to hear Treasurer Moore discuss the legislation recently passed by the North Carolina General Assembly that significantly changes the State Treasurer's investment authority, as well as other key state budget issues. www.treasurer.state.nc.us

Paradigm Genetics and Lion Bioscience Expand Strategic Alliance


Paradigm Genetics, Inc. (Nasdaq: PDGM) and LION bioscience AG (Nasdaq: LEON, Neuer Markt: 504 350, LIO) announced that they have expanded their five-year strategic alliance. The alliance was first initiated in January 2000, to co-develop and co-market MetaTraceTM, a metabolic profiling database. Under the terms of the expanded agreement, biochemical data will be added to the MetaTraceTM database enabling pharmaceutical research and discovery based on metabolic information. Amphora Establishes Corporate Headquarters In Research Triangle Park


Amphora Discovery Corporation, a newly created chemical genomics company, has signed an agreement with Alexandria Real Estate Equities to lease 25,000 square feet in the Alexandria Technology Center at 800 Capitola Drive, Research Triangle Park. This location will serve as Amphora's Corporate Headquarters. Amphora plans to hire as many as 100 employees over the next 18 months, chiefly in the areas of biological sciences, engineering, and information technology.

Springboard Makes $2.52 M Deal with FortuneCity.com


Cary-based Springboard Managed Hosting has been awarded a three-year, $2.52 million contract to provide Web hosting for New York-based FortuneCity.com, says Springboard Chief Executive Officer Rich Lee. The agreement will bring Springboard to a cash positive position, according to the company. It also will result in the hiring of about 12 more IT employees in the next three months, says Springboard President Chris Hanks. www.springboardhosting.com
