Doss Named National 1999 Supporter of Entrepreneurship
Monica Doss, CED Executive Director, received the National 1999 Entrepreneur of the Year award in the category of Supporter at the 13th annual Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award conference in Palm Springs, California on November 13, 1999. Co-sponsored by CNN, USA TODAY, CNNfn, NASDAQ/AMEX and the Kauffman Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, highlights of the awards will be featured on CNN on Nov. 20th at 3:30 PM.
Paradigm Expands with New Center for Functional Genomics Research
Privately held Paradigm Genetics Inc. has broken ground on a $12.8 million expansion project that will give it 54,000 square feet of laboratory and office facilities on six acres of land adjacent to its current facilities. The new building, which will be called the Center for Functional Genomics Research, is the first of what could ultimately be three stages of expansion, giving the company about 284,000 square feet on a contiguous 22-acre campus within Research Triangle Park. The company has grown from 25 to 80 employees over the past year and expects to grow to over 200 employees by 2001.
Imaginis.net Launches New Women's Health Web Site, Moves Locations
Launching the first web site where women can get a second opinion on their mammogram results last week, Imaginis.net continues to grow as it expands into new office space. Created in partnership with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, www.imaginis.net/unc-mammo will allow women to get a second opinion as to whether a biopsy is essential to diagnose a lump relating to breast cancer
SciQuest Shares Nearly Double in Price in IPO
Shares of SciQuest.com Inc., SQST, nearly doubled in price in the online database company's market debut Friday, making it among the top percentage gainers on the Nasdaq stock market. Stock of company, whose database is used by scientists to find products in the pharmaceuticals, biotech, chemical and other areas, leaped 13-1/4, or 83 percent, to 29-1/4 from its 16 a share offering price. SciQuest is a CED FastTrac graduate and former presenter at CED's annual venture conference.
XS Inc. Raises $20 Million
Morgan Stanley Dean Witter led a $20 million first institutional round of financing for the Triangle-based agricultural business-to-business e-commerce company XS Inc. to fuel its growth.
