Doss Named National 1999 Supporter of Entrepreneurship
Monica Doss, CED Executive Director, received the National 1999 Entrepreneur of the Year award in the category of Supporter at the 13th annual Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award conference in Palm Springs, California on November 13, 1999. Co-sponsored by CNN, USA TODAY, CNNfn, NASDAQ/AMEX and the Kauffman Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, highlights of the awards will be featured on CNN on Nov. 20th at 3:30 PM.
Paradigm Expands with New Center for Functional Genomics Research
Privately held Paradigm Genetics Inc. has broken ground on a $12.8 million expansion project that will give it 54,000 square feet of laboratory and office facilities on six acres of land adjacent to its current facilities. The new building, which will be called the Center for Functional Genomics Research, is the first of what could ultimately be three stages of expansion, giving the company about 284,000 square feet on a contiguous 22-acre campus within Research Triangle Park. The company has grown from 25 to 80 employees over the past year and expects to grow to over 200 employees by 2001.
Imaginis.net Launches New Women's Health Web Site, Moves Locations
Launching the first web site where women can get a second opinion on their mammogram results last week, Imaginis.net continues to grow as it expands into new office space. Created in partnership with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, www.imaginis.net/unc-mammo will allow women to get a second opinion as to whether a biopsy is essential to diagnose a lump relating to breast cancer
Intronn LLC Presents at VentureOne Premier Conference
Intronn's CEO, Dr. Lloyd Mitchell was selected to present at the first VentureOne Premiere conference for early-stage companies, held on November 8-9 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose California. More than 800 investors, entrepreneurs and others attended the conference, which showcased companies from throughout the US. Intronn, a FastTrac Tech graduate, was nominated by CED as a presenter and selected by a national panel of venture capitalists to present.
Diebold Buys Nexus Software for Undisclosed Amount
Diebold, Incorporated, has agreed to purchase Nexus Software, Incorporated, for an undisclosed sum. Raleigh-based Nexus Software is a technology development and retail bank branch connectivity company that markets its suite of products to financial institutions around the world. Nexus has installations in more than 250 banks in 77 countries. Under the agreement, Nexus will operate independently as a wholly owned subsidiary of Diebold.
iRenaissance Receives $500,000 in Funding
Campus Pipeline, a college web site developer based in Salt Lake City, led the first round of $500,000 funding of iRenaissance, which closed last week. Looking to build or by a calendar on its web site, Campus Pipeline discovered iRenaisance from an Internet search. iRenaissance is a FastTrac/FastTrac Tech and STREAK graduate and a Venture '99 presenter.
Quintiles Partners Up with Chinese Pharmaceutical Company
Quintiles Transactional Corporation recently signed an agreement with Shanghai Xingling Scientific and Technology Pharmaceutical Company, Ltd. The partnership enables Quintiles to conduct clinical studies of Shanghai Xingling's product, a traditional Chinese medicine derived from the gingko tree, to determine its effectiveness as a treatment for stable angia.
