Leading Regenerative Medicine Researcher Dr. Anthony Atala to Keynote Biotech 2007

Atala Will Join Senator Daschle in Providing Comments at CED’s 16th Annual Conference on May 14-15 in Durham, NC

February 22, 2007, Research Triangle Park, NC – The Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) today announced that Dr. Anthony Atala, Senior Researcher and Director, Institute for Regenerative Medicine, Wake Forest University School of Medicine, will join previously announced speaker Senator Tom Daschle in providing featured comments at Biotech 2007. The 16th annual Biotech conference – scheduled for May 14-15, 2007, at the Marriott at the Civic Center in Durham, N.C. – is presented by CED in partnership with the North Carolina Biotechnology Center and the North Carolina Biosciences Organization (NCBIO).

Dr. Atala is the director of the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine, where he leads a team of more than 100 physicians and researchers. He is also the department chair at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, a pediatric urology surgeon, a published author and a leading researcher in the area of regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. Dr. Atala has been involved with national, professional and government committees, including the National Institute of Health's working group on Cells and Developmental Biology and the NIH Bioengineering Consortium. He has applied for or received more than 150 national and international patents, and 10 applications of technologies developed in Dr. Atala's laboratory have been used clinically.
