CED Honors Entrepreneurial Excellence Award Winners
CED Presents Annual Awards on June 21 at Durham’s American Tobacco Historic District
June 22, 2006, Research Triangle Park, NC –The Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) honored area entrepreneurs and high-growth companies during the organization’s 20th annual Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards on June 21 at the American Tobacco Historic District in Durham, NC. More than 400 people attended the sold-out celebration.
Below are the 2006 award winners:
- Entrepreneurial Excellence – John McConnell
- Outstanding Service to Entrepreneurs – Karen LeVert, Southeast TechInventures Inc.
- Deal of the Year (Public Company) – Targacept, Inc.
- Deal of the Year (Private Company) – Square 1 Bank
- Growth Company of the Year – Parata Systems
- Technology of the Year – Geomagic, Inc.
- Community Impact – Jim Goodmon, Capitol Broadcasting Company, Inc.

- FastTrac Tech Company of the Year – Precision BioSciences
- Charles Hamner Leadership Award – Dennis Dougherty, Intersouth Partners (previously awarded at CED’s Biotech 2006 conference on May 22, 2006)
"This year's award winners highlight the important role that entrepreneurs play in our economy," said CED President Monica Doss. “From 3D imaging to drug development, healthcare technology to open source software – North Carolina’s innovation-based community boasts a rich pipeline of entrepreneurial success stories.”
