NCSU to Teach Part-time MBA Program at CED's Research Triangle Office
February 20, 2006, Research Triangle Park, NC – The NC State College of Management is bringing its part-time MBA program to the Research Triangle Park this fall. The evening courses will be taught in the new headquarters for the Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED), 100 Capitola Drive, Suite 101, near the southwestern edge of the RTP in Durham. The college will continue to offer full-time and evening programs on NC State’s main campus.
“Our curriculum - especially our MBA concentrations in biotechnology-pharmaceuticals, supply chain management, services science, and technology entrepreneurship was designed to meet the needs of engineers and scientists seeking to develop career-building managerial skills and to bring greater value to their employers,” said Ira R. Weiss, dean of the College of Management.
“NC State is the first research university in the nation to offer MBA and graduate engineering curricula that focus on the growing field of services science,” said Steve Allen, associate dean for graduate programs and research at the College of Management. The new services science curriculum, being developed collaboratively by the College of Management, College of Engineering and IBM, was announced in January. “There has been strong interest among the area’s technology-driven companies to provide more convenient access to our technology-focused MBA curriculum for their scientists and engineers,” Allen said. “We are pleased to be able to provide this new convenient location for working professionals in Chatham, Durham and Orange counties to earn their MBA degree from NC State.”
Admissions requirements are the same as for the part-time MBA program on the NC State main campus, but the final deadline to apply for fall 2006 admission at the RTP site has been extended to May 31. Details about admissions and the MBA program are available online at mba.ncsu.edu.
“The NC State MBA has been very responsive to the educational needs of the region, as evidenced by the technology-focused concentrations it has developed,” said CED president Monica Doss. “Hosting this program at CED also fits with our mission to accelerate the entrepreneurial culture of the Research Triangle and North Carolina. We are pleased to welcome the College of Management to our facilities.”
“Lifelong learning has become essential to success in a rapidly changing and competitive business environment,” said Larry Nielsen, NC State provost. “North Carolina continues to compete well for new jobs and businesses because of a well-educated work force. The evening MBA@RTP reflects the university's commitment to support North Carolina's economic health by providing programs that help meet the needs of students, working professionals, and employers.”
In addition to its technology-focused curricula, the NC State MBA offers concentrations in financial management, product innovation, marketing management, and information technology. The NC State MBA curriculum includes team and project-based learning that enables students to apply classroom instruction to real-world projects, enhancing their academic experience. Part-time students find they can often apply what they learned in class immediately in their workplace.
The NC State College of Management was created in 1992, and its MBA program was established in 2002. The college also offers a Master of Accounting program, and undergraduate degree programs in accounting, business management and economics. It also offers masters and doctoral studies in economics. The college’s business management program is accredited by AACSB International.
