CED Launches Workshops to Provide 'On Ramp' For Start-up Entrepreneurs

'Entrepreneurs Only Workshop' Series to Begin Jan. 18 with 'Start-up Stories'

January 4, 2005, Research Triangle Park, NC – The Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) today announced a series of bi-weekly lunchtime workshops to meet the start-up needs of current and potential entrepreneurs. CED's newly launched Entrepreneurs Only Workshops will focus on core issues such as financing, marketing, human capital and the development of general business tools.

The upcoming workshops, which are not industry-specific, will focus on finite topics that are targeted to corporate employees, university researchers, students, entrepreneurial company employees and anyone else interested in starting or growing a business.

CED President Monica Doss said the Entrepreneurs Only Workshops will differ from other program offerings in regards to both frequency and format. She said the workshops will enhance CED's current program lineup by providing another channel for early-stage entrepreneurs to gain practical tools for starting and growing their business.

“These workshops offer a low-risk opportunity to gain how-to advice and best practices in an informal, frequent and timely manner,” said Doss. “We also want the lunchtime programs to serve as an 'on ramp' to other CED programs that meet the needs of our early-stage entrepreneurial members and non-members. The workshops will provide tools that you can apply to your business the very next day.”

CED's Entrepreneurs Only Workshop series kicks off with a lunchtime program on January 18 from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at CED's Research Triangle Park office. At this first workshop, entitled "Start-up Stories," two area entrepreneurs will share successes and failures they have faced over the course of their careers. The seasoned entrepreneurs scheduled to speak are Donovan Moxey, founder and CEO, Interactive Media Solutions; and Rich West, co-founder and former CEO, TriVirix, and co-founder and CEO, Adigy.

In addition to “Start-up Stories” on January 18, future workshop topics include “Developing and Building your Brand,” “How to Structure, Negotiate, and Close the Deal,” and “Building the Team.” The Entrepreneurs Only Workshops will run bi-weekly from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at CED's RTP office. Pizza and salad will be provided for all attendees. Cost is $10 for CED members and $15 for non-members.
