CED, TiE-Carolinas to Host Joint Reception at InfoTech Conference

Sycamore Networks' Deshpande to Speak at Reception

October 6, 2003, Research Triangle Park, NC — - The Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) and the area chapter of The IndUS Entrepreneurs (TiE-Carolinas) are teaming up to host a joint reception Oct. 27 following the 13th annual InfoTech 2003 conference. TiE-Carolinas' October monthly meeting will be combined with the InfoTech conference's closing reception. The reception starts at 4 p.m. at RTP's Sheraton Imperial Hotel and Convention Center.

During the joint reception, attendees will hear an address from Gururaj “Desh” Deshpande, an influential technology entrepreneur and visionary who is chairman of TiE-Global and co-founder and chairman of Sycamore Networks. Prior to co-founding Sycamore Networks, Dr. Deshpande was founder and chairman of Cascade Communications Corp. Between 1991 and 1997, Cascade grew from a one-person startup to a company with $500 million in revenue and 900 employees. In June of 1997, Cascade was acquired by Ascend Communications for $3.7 billion. Prior to Cascade, Dr. Deshpande co-founded Coral Network Corporation in 1988.

CED is presenting the 13th annual InfoTech conference in partnership with UNC-Chapel Hill's Kenan-Flagler Business School, MCNC and TiE-Carolinas. The conference will highlight North Carolina's multi-billion dollar IT industry and explore the latest industry trends and new business opportunities.
