Five More Companies Selected for CED's Venture 2003
Final Application Deadline Slated for Jan. 23; GlaxoSmithKline's Ingram to Deliver Keynote Address
January 20, 2003, Research Triangle Park, NC - The Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) has chosen five additional companies to present at Venture 2003. Other interested companies are encouraged to apply by Jan. 23 for consideration in the final selection round. The conference, scheduled for April 22-23, 2003, in Chapel Hill, NC, will continue its 20-year tradition of showcasing North Carolina's hottest investment opportunities to venture capitalists and financiers from throughout the United States.
Bob Ingram, Vice Chairman of Pharmaceuticals for GlaxoSmithKline, has also agreed to deliver a keynote address at the conference. In late December 2002, Ingram retired from his position as Chief Operating Officer and President of Pharmaceutical Operations for GSK.
"Bob Ingram's reputation for leadership and management excellence is without peer," said Steve Nelson, a partner with the Wakefield Group and co-chair of Venture 2003. "We are delighted he is going to share his wisdom with us."
In addition, Nelson said the newly selected presenting companies "would be an early showcase into the area's winning companies of the future."
The five companies recently selected to present at Venture 2003 include:
- Bloodhound Inc. (Durham, NC - www.bloodhoundinc.com)
- Founded in 1997, Bloodhound Inc. is an application service provider
(ASP) specializing in medical claims overpayment protection services
and medical billing data analysis. Bloodhound's flagship product safeguards
insurers and other at-risk medical payment organizations from medical
claims overpayment.
- Regado Biosciences (Durham, NC) - Regado Biosciences
is an RTP-based company developing the first generation of regulatable
therapeutics. Its proprietary technology allows Regado to generate
highly specific antidotes for each new drug it develops. The rational
design of drug-antidote pairs represents a new paradigm for developing
safer therapeutics that addresses multi-billion dollar markets in
acute care medicine.
- Syntherica Corp. (Durham, NC) - The proprietary
SynthetideTM technology of
Syntherica Corp. (formerly Sylvanus Pharma, Inc.) creates synthetic
antibodies that mimic the important features of antibodies, such as
specificity and affinity, but can be developed in one-tenth the time
of natural antibodies. The company's technology provides a new approach
to such intractable diseases as HIV/AIDS, where natural antibodies
have proven ineffective.
- TransTech Pharma, Inc. (High Point, NC - www.ttpharma.com)
- TransTech Pharma is a drug discovery company that has developed
and implemented a proprietary and efficient "drug discovery engine"
called TTP Translational TechnologyTM.
This technology platform utilizes and translates genomic and proteomic
data into safe and effective small molecule therapeutics in high throughput
fashion, bypassing most of the classical requirements and bottlenecks
in drug discovery.
- ViASIC (Durham, NC - www.viasic.com) - ViASIC provides leading Electronic Design Automation (EDA) solutions that connect physical synthesis to manufacturing for integrated circuit (IC) designers. ViASIC also offers patent-pending technology, available for license to ASIC manufacturers and suppliers, designers and end-users.
