CED Unveils Leadership and Management Development Initiative for Triangle Executives
Foremost Leadership Authority to Headline New CED Endeavor
January 8, 2003, Research Triangle Park, NC -- CED announces the debut of its new Leadership and Management Development Initiative (LMDI), the first program of which will feature Dr. Gerald Bell of Bell Leadership. Dr. Gerald D. Bell is a professor at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina and a leading consultant to major business organizations throughout the world.
"Every study about successful entrepreneurial economies asserts the need for seasoned management talent," says Monica Doss, president of CED. "In CED's own 2001 Satisfaction Survey of area entrepreneurs, respondents noted the continuing need for strong management personnel as a potential impediment to this region's growth. So in an effort to fulfill this community need, we've crafted the Leadership and Management Development Initiative and recruited world-renowned Dr. Bell to help 'home grow' the Triangle's next generation of business leaders."
For CED's LMDI, Dr. Bell will guide a special "Leadership Roundtable" for select CEOs of entrepreneurial companies. In addition, all CED members will be eligible for a 40% discount on other upcoming Bell Leadership seminars conducted by Dr. Bell. To receive this discount, CED members may register through www.bellleadership.com/seminars and note "CED Member" on the online registration form.
As part of the overall LMDI, CED, in partnership with various forerunners in business leadership and management skills, will develop and embark upon a series of training solutions in the areas of leadership development and management skills for entrepreneurs of maturing Triangle companies. This targeted "Leadership Roundtable" and other Bell Leadership seminars will be the first in a number of new program undertakings.
"Strengthening the region's leadership talent will significantly enhance the Triangle's existing arsenal of economic assets," says Christy Shaffer, CEO of Durham's Inspire Pharmaceuticals. "Having personally completed the Bell series and encouraged several senior Inspire managers to do so, I've experienced first-hand the impact Dr. Bell's leadership series can have in creating a world-class management team. I think it's a superb fit for the inaugural plank of CED's Leadership and Management Development Initiative curriculum."
LMDI is the consequence of more than 18 months of market research and strategic planning including interviews, focus groups, surveys and program evaluations, into the leadership needs of Triangle entrepreneurial companies. It stands as a direct result of CED's Innovation to Impact five-year strategic vision and successful capital campaign, which has raised more than $4.5 million to date, exceeding its target by more than $1.5 million.
