CED Hosts Congressman David Price and CEOs of Entrepreneurial Companies
Breakfast Meeting Addresses Issues Impacting Entrepreneurs
August 28, 2001, Research Triangle Park, NC - Today Congressman David Price convened with more than 30 CEOs of Research Triangle Park companies at the CED Entrepreneurship Center about the pressing issues concerning entrepreneurs. The Council for Entrepreneurial Development served as the conduit for the meeting.
Entrepreneurial leaders had the opportunity to share their ideas and concerns with Congressman Price on key issues that will impact them and their companies in the coming months and years.
Congressman Price gave a firsthand overview of issues impacting entrepreneurs at the Federal level, both on the short-term and long-term horizons. The future of the Research & Development Tax Credit, which is set to expire in 2003, was one of the most critical issues on the entrepreneurs' minds. Another issue that arose pertained to a bill Price is co-sponsoring to modify the Alternative Minimal Tax so that employees who own stock options are not adversely impacted. Other concerns included the leadership of the FDA and the amount of time it takes to approve drugs, the potential base closings in North Carolina, and the estate tax.
"It's wonderful that Price stays in touch with local concerns of entrepreneurs and businesses in the Research Triangle community," said John Plachetka, president and CEO of POZEN, Inc. "He is an influential member of Congress, and we understand that he understands that he will address our issues."
"With the creation of Research Triangle Park in 1958 and the creation of CED in 1984, the Triangle has always been on the cutting edge. CED is poised to lead us even further," said Congressman Price. "I'm pleased to have the opportunity to convene with such a vibrant group, who is making the Research Triangle a leading community for high-impact companies and talent."
One of CED's ongoing goals is to more actively engage area entrepreneurs with elected officials forging public policy that may impact them.
"We are pleased that Congressman Price has continued to support and recognize us as a hub for entrepreneurial activity. His willingness to meet face to face with some of the most influential entrepreneurial leaders in his district shows that he realizes that start-up companies face different challenges than larger technology companies," said Monica Doss, CED president.
