Entrepreneurs Hear from National Experts at CED's InfoTech 2001

More Than 850 Attend InfoTech October 30-31

November 1, 2001, Research Triangle Park, NC - A number of national experts shared their experience and expertise on the information technology industry to an audience of more than 850 at the Council for Entrepreneurial Development's (CED) Research Triangle InfoTech 2001 conference.

InfoTech was presented by CED in partnership with The IndUS Entrepreneurs (TiE) Carolinas and the University of North Carolina's Kenan-Flagler Business School. Consulting expert Rajat Gupta, managing director of McKinsey & Company (www.mckinsey.com), and Owens & Minor's vice president and CIO David Guzman (www.owens-minor.com), provided keynote remarks. Former CEO of Bank of America, Hugh McColl, also spoke about the state of technology in North Carolina and his transition from chairman of America's largest bank to chairman of his own investment banking firm, McColl Partners (www.mccollpartners.com).

"Despite the difficult economic times, we are still encouraged by the attendance and overall energy of the information technology sector," said Monica Doss, CED president. "The national caliber of speakers at this year's InfoTech also suggests continued external interest in the Triangle's IT sector."

Speakers included representatives from the following entities: ABS Ventures, Business Week Online, Capital Investment Partners, Cisco, Columbia University, Ericsson, Forbes.com, General Atlantic Partners, Greylock Partners, IBM, Intel Capital, JDS Uniphase, Red Hat, SAS, The Wall Street Journal, and Venrock Associates.

Session highlights included a lively journalists' panel on October 30 with Walt Mossberg, The Wall Street Journal; Alex Salkever, Business Week Online; Arik Hesseldahl, Forbes.com; and Sumi Das, TechTV; and moderator, Sreenath Sreenivasan, Columbia University. Additionally, a venture capitalist panel featured Mike Brooks, Venrock Associates; Bill Ford, General Atlantic Partners; Bill Helman, Greylock; and a "Next Generation Wireless Infrastructure" panel featured Jud Bowman, Pinpoint Networks; Sandeep Chennakeshu, Ericsson; and Ed Paradise, Cisco Systems.

In addition to the exciting speakers, 25 companies showcased their technology in the demo rooms throughout the day on October 31. The wide range of demo companies included Vedic Technologies, which introduced the world's first PDA-based Internet telephone, and NetOctave, which showed off its network security processor capability that will ensure more Internet security.
