Presenting Companies Selected for CED's Venture '98
March 4, 1998, Research Triangle Park, N.C. --. Twenty companies in search of venture capital have been selected to present at Venture '98, which will be held on April 22-23rd on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH). The Southeast's premier venture capital conference, the 15th annual Venture '98 is sponsored by the Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED), the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the North Carolina Venture Capital Association and UNC-CH's Kenan-Flagler Business School.
The conference has grown to become one of the largest venture conferences in the country, attracting venture capitalists from across the nation and Canada. Because of the region's dynamic entrepreneurial growth, the Venture '98 selection committee, led by Martin Zorn of Wachovia and Tom Laundon of the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, increased the number of companies selected to 20 -- past conferences have featured 15-17 companies. In addition, seven companies will be chosen as non-presenting exhibitors at the conference. Those companies will be released in the coming weeks.
"This area has become a hot place for entrepreneurs to grow a business," said Monica Doss, executive director of CED. "The venture conference has grown to meet the needs of this area from the standpoint of entrepreneurs looking for funding to grow a company as well as venture capitalists looking to invest."
The conference begins with a cocktail reception at the Carolina Club Wednesday evening, April 22nd, with presentations and company exhibits at the Friday Center all day Thursday, April 23rd. The 20 companies selected represent a wide range of stages and industries, reflecting the diverse entrepreneurial strength of the region.
