Targacept Begins Phase I Trials for Neuropathic Pain Treatment

Winston-Salem-based Targacept (www.targacept.com), a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company, has initiated Phase I clinical trials of TC-6499, a small molecule the company hopes to develop for treatment of neuropathic pain. This stage of clinical trials will evaluate drug safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetics of TC-6499. Targacept develops a class of drugs known as NNR Therapeutics which are used for the treatment of multiple diseases and disorders of the central nervous system.
