Metastatix Launches Phase I Clinical Trial of Potential Cancer Drug

Atlanta-based Metastatix (www.metastatix.com), a drug development start-up, has launched a Phase I clinical trial of a potential cancer drug, MSX-122. The drug was recently approved for testing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. It will be tested on patients with late-stage solid tumors. The primary focus is to determine the safety of the drug. Founded in 2005 with technology licensed from Emory University, Metastatix is targeting treatments for HIV and cancer. In September, Metastatix closed on $35 million in new venture capital financing including H.I.G. Ventures and The Aurora Funds.
