RTP-based CONFIDANT (www.confidantinc.com), a company that develops mobile communication solutions for chronic disease management, has received market clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for over-the-counter sales of its chronic disease management product. The company previously won FDA approval in May 2005 for a mobile phone-based system to communicate with multiple home medical devices, followed by October 2006 approval with system improvements and broader compatibility with home medical devices. The product, aimed at home diabetes management, can collect data from a range of glucose meters, weight scales and blood pressure devices.
