Durham-based KBI BioPharma, Inc. (www.kbibiopharma.com), a contract biopharmaceutical process development, production and technology company, has advanced its proprietary Centrifugal Bioreactor (CBR) technology from a research environment into an applied development phase. KBI has conducted proof-of-principle work that shows its CBR technology maintaining high-density fluidized cell cultures over long periods, according to company reports.
KBI's system has proven effective and broadly applicable in a laboratory setting, and it is also compatible with most recognized biopharmaceutical production cell lines. KBI will now focus its efforts on demonstrating high productivity of a number of specific recombinant protein and monoclonal antibody products in an applied development environment. All future CBR development work will done at KBI BioPharma labs in Durham, where the company's biopharmaceutics platform will be leveraged to facilitate rapid progression through applications development.
