Christopher A. Viehbacher, born March 26, 1960, holds German and Canadian nationalities. He is a graduate of the Queens University (Ontario - Canada) and a certified public accountant.


After beginning his career at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, between 1988-2008 he acquired broad international experience in Europe, in the United States and in Canada with the GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) company. In his last position, Christopher A. Viehbacher was President, Pharmaceutical Operations North America, a member of the board and Co-Chairman of the Portfolio Management Board. As from December 1, 2008, Christopher A. Viehbacher is a sanofi-aventis board member, CEO and a member of the Strategy Committee. He is also President and CEO of Genzyme since April 2011.


Christopher A. Viehbacher is Chairman of PhRMA in the United States since December 2010 and was elected Chair of the CEO Roundtable on Cancer in February 2011. Christopher A. Viehbacher is married with three children. He speaks French, English and German: he lived in France for nine years when he was General Manager of GSK France. He was made a knight of the French Legion of Honor in 2003.

Alex Gorsky is Vice Chairman of Johnson & Johnson’s Executive Committee, the Company’s senior-most leadership team.  He assumed this role in January 2011.  As Vice Chairman, Alex is responsible for Johnson & Johnson’s Medical Devices & Diagnostics Group, the largest business of its kind in the world; Johnson & Johnson Supply Chain, which includes a global network of 140 manufacturing facilities; the Company’s Government Affairs & Policy Group; and the Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation, the Company’s venture capital subsidiary.

Alex began his Johnson & Johnson career as a sales representative with Janssen Pharmaceutica in 1988.  Over the next 15 years, he advanced through positions of increasing responsibility in sales, marketing, and management.  In 2001, Alex was appointed President of Janssen, and in 2003, he was named Company Group Chairman of Johnson & Johnson’s pharmaceuticals business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.  

Alex left Johnson & Johnson in 2004 to join the Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, where he served as head of the company’s pharmaceuticals business in North America.

Alex returned to Johnson & Johnson in 2008 as Company Group Chairman for Ethicon.  In early 2009, he was appointed Worldwide Chairman of the Surgical Care Group and also was appointed to the Johnson & Johnson Executive Committee.  In September 2009, he was appointed Worldwide Chairman of the Medical Devices & Diagnostics Group.

Alex represents Johnson & Johnson on the board of AdvaMed, the U.S. trade association for the medical device and diagnostics industry.   A longtime advocate of diversity and inclusion, Alex was named the 2009 Mentor of the Year by the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association, an organization he has been involved with for many years.   He is the Executive Sponsor of two Johnson & Johnson affinity groups, the Women’s Leadership Initiative and the Veteran’s Leadership Council

Alex holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., and spent six years in the U.S. Army, finishing his military career with the rank of Captain.  Alex earned a Master of Business Administration degree from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1996.

He and his wife, Pat, have a son, Nicholas.

Jack Bailey joined GlaxoSmithKline in 2009 to lead the Private, Public and Institutional Customers (PPIC) division for US Pharma. This division pulls together Public Policy & Patient Advocacy, Government Affairs, Payer Markets and Medical Center Sales, ensuring a holistic approach to U.S. health care policy, funding and institutional delivery. In addition Jack has responsibility for GSK’s Puerto Rican operations and recently acquired Vaccines which led to rebranding his division to Policy, Payers and Vaccines (PPV) for NA Pharma.


Prior to joining GSK, Jack enjoyed a successful eighteen-year career with Eli Lilly, most recently serving as Senior Vice President, Account-based Markets Division. Jack had a series of roles of increasing importance while with Lilly, including general manager for Eli Lilly South Africa and later Area Director for the Sub-Saharan region.


Jack received his BS in biology with a concentration in genetics from Hobart College, Geneva, New York and his MBA at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Jack and his wife, Robin reside in Raleigh, North Carolina with their two children, Emily and John.

Ben Bonifant is the leader of Campbell Alliance’s Business Development practice.  In that role, Mr. Bonifant assists leaders in large and small pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies on key licensing and acquisition initiatives.  He also acts as a strategic advisor to venture capital and private equity decision makers.  Prior to joining Campbell, Mr. Bonifant was a partner in the Strategy Practice at Mercer Management Consulting.  Mr. Bonifant’s perspectives on life-sciences market developments are frequently published in industry and strategy journals, including Nature Biotechnology, Scrip, InVivo, and Pharmaceutical Executive.  Mr. Bonifant is a member of the faculty of BIO’s Business Development Basics and Advanced Business Development Professional Development Courses, and he is the co-chairman of the biannual LES Royalty Rate Survey Committee.  He is currently serving on the National Program Committee for the 2011 BIO International Convention.  Mr. Bonifant earned an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a BS from Duke University.

Dr. Christensen comes to Oncotide from Cognosci where he was VP of Research. He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine (Hematology) at Duke University Medical Center and has 18+ years of research experience at the interface of chemistry and biology, with senior positions at Cognosci, Affinergy Inc., Aryzun Pharmaceuticals, and KaroBio USA, formerly Novalon Pharmaceuticals.  Dr. Christensen received his B.S. in Chemistry from Utah State University, and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Utah.  He was an NIH Postdoctoral Fellow at Texas A&M University.  He has published many papers and is an inventor on numerous patents and patent applications in drug discovery. Dr. Christensen currently serves as a member of the MOSS(T) SBIR study section and has been the PI on numerous grants from the NIH and DOD.

Mark Clemens received his PhD in Physiology from St. Louis University and did postdoctoral research and served as Research Scientist at Yale Medical School. He served as Director of Research for Pediatric Surgery at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine for ten years before moving to University of North Carolina at Charlotte as Chair of Biology. In 2005 Dr. Clemens stepped down as Chair of Biology and cofounded HepatoSys Inc. based on technology developed as part of a Bioengineering Research Partnership grant from the NIH on which Dr. Clemens was principal investigator. He now serves as vice president and chief scientific officer of HepatoSys. Dr. Clemens’ research interests are in the area of regulation of liver blood flow and metabolism, shock and critical care, organ preservation and tissue engineering. His research has been continuously funded by the NIH for over 25 years.  He is an associate editor of the journal Shock, a past president of the Shock Society, a member of the Shriners Research Advisory Board and has served on numerous NIH study sections.

Deborah Dunsire MD has been the President and Chief Executive Officer of Millennium Pharmaceuticals Inc., since July 2005. In 2008 Millennium was acquired by Takeda Pharmaceuticals of Japan, becoming the global oncology center of excellence for Takeda under her leadership.  Dr. Dunsire joined Millennium from her role as Senior Vice President and North American region head of the Oncology Business Unit of Novartis in July 2005. Prior to her move to the US in 1994 – Dr. Dunsire worked in the global headquarters of Sandoz in Switzerland managing launch and growth of global products in the field of immunology and dermatology. She joined Sandoz in South Africa in 1988 as a clinical researcher and expanded her resume to include portfolio and specialty market management.

Dr. Dunsire is a member of the Board of Directors of Allergan Inc. and serves as a Director of the Biotechnology Industry Organization where she co-chairs the Committee on Reimbursement and serves as a member of the Executive Committee. Her not for profit board memberships include CancerCare Inc; the Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation for Cancer Research, the Boston Museum of Science where she chairs the Investment Review Board and she is also a member of the Massachusetts General Hospital Research Advisory Council. She served as a Director of Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) from 2005-2008 and as a Director of California Healthcare Institute from 2002 - 2005. Dr. Dunsire was the 2001 recipient of the American Cancer Society Excalibur Award, the 2000 recipient of the Health Care Business Women's Association Rising Star Award, the 2009 Health Care Business Women’s Association Woman of the Year Award, 2011 Massachusetts Biotechnology Organization’s Innovative Leadership Award, and the 2011 Golden Door Award from the International Institute of New England. She received a PhD Honoris Causa from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2007. Dr. Dunsire graduated as a physician from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa

Eric Faulkner heads Quintiles’ reimbursement, pricing and market access and commercialization strategy consulting. Before joining Quintiles in 2011, Eric managed a portfolio of projects at RTI Health Solutions, the Littell Group, and The Lewin Group. He was an expert advisor to the Personalized Medicine Subcommittee of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. Eric is Chair of the ISPOR Personalized Medicine Special Interest Group; is Executive Director of the Genomics Biotech and Emerging Medical Technology Institute of the National Association of Managed Care Physicians; and is an adjunct Assistant Professor at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Mr. Fowler joined Liquidia in 2008 after seven successful years at Johnson & Johnson (J&J). While at J&J, Neal served as President of Centocor, Inc., a multi-billion dollar subsidiary focused on development and commercialization of industry leading biomedicines used in the treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases.  At Centocor, Mr. Fowler prepared the company for the launch of two potential blockbuster products and continued the company's legacy of double-digit growth for their flagship product REMICADE® (infliximab).  Prior to Centocor, Mr. Fowler was president of Ortho-McNeil Neurologics Inc. and vice president of the central nervous system franchise at Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceuticals.  Mr. Fowler joined J&J after a successful 13-year career at Eli Lilly and Company, where he held a variety of sales, marketing and business development roles with increasing responsibilities in both the pharmaceutical and medical device divisions.  Mr. Fowler is a native of Raleigh, NC and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy and Masters of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH).

Nicole R. Fox,

Nicole Fox serves on the staff of the Army Research Office (ARO) in Durham, NC as the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Program Coordinator. She has held this position since August 2011.  In this capacity she coordinates all aspects of ARO’s participation in the SBIR/STTR Programs of the Army and other DoD agencies.  Prior to assuming her current role, Ms. Fox served from 2001 through 2005 and again from 2010 through 2011 as the Program Specialist for the Army Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program. During her years of service she specialized in reviewing and recommending improvements for program execution processes (topic selection, proposal evaluation, and contract award and execution). She also manages the topic development processes, coordinates all aspects of program administration with Army Program Mangers, oversees the proposal evaluation process, and conducts debriefings.

Dr. Garg has served as Tranzyme’s President and Chief Executive Officer and as a member of its board of directors since late 2000. Under his leadership, Tranzyme has advanced two internally-discovered drug candidates into late-stage clinical development and the company has secured more than $140 million of new capital, including net proceeds of $51.4 million as part of the Company’s initial public offering in April 2011. Prior to joining Tranzyme, Dr. Garg was COO of Apex Bioscience (now Curacyte AG of Munich, Germany), and held senior management positions at DNX Therapeutics [NASDAQ: DNXX] until its acquisition by Baxter in 1994, Sepracor, Inc. (now Sunovion) and Bio-Response Inc. (acquired by Baxter).

Dr. Garg is a past member of the board of the NC Biotechnology Center, currently serves on the Executive Committee of CED (formerly the Council for Entrepreneurial Development) and is the recipient of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2009 Award, Carolinas Region. He was also a member of the US Presidential Mission to India led by President Bill Clinton in March, 2000. He holds an M.S. from Delhi University, New Delhi, India, and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Adelaide, Australia.

Amy L. Grogg, PharmD, is President of Xcenda.  Dr. Grogg leads the company's strategic direction to ensure that Xcenda consistently advances its leading market position. Dr. Grogg joined Xcenda in 2005 and was previously Vice President, leading the Reimbursement and Value consulting teams.  


Dr. Grogg's extensive experience includes more than 150 unique research studies and strategic marketing engagements. Her work in the pharmaceutical industry has included pharmacoeconomics, quality of life, and outcomes management research as well as presentations and publications for developmental and marketed products in hypercholesterolemia, oncology, analgesia, neurology, osteoporosis, pain management, psychiatry, neurology, gastroenterology, and many other therapeutic areas. Dr. Grogg is the Chair of Research Committee for the Foundation of Managed Care Pharmacy and she is the immediate past chair of the Institutional Council for the International Society of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research.  


Prior to joining Xcenda, Dr. Grogg held various internal and regional positions within the Outcomes Research group at Janssen Pharmaceutica. She most recently led the Outcomes Research and Medical Informatics groups responsible for all health economic, quality of life, and patient-reported outcomes research studies as well as statistical analysis support for Medical Affairs activities for all marketed products from Janssen Pharmaceutica in the US. She was a member of the Medical Affairs Management Team, Chairman of the J&J Global Health Economics and Outcomes Research Council, and Chairman of the Janssen Women’s Leadership Initiative.  


Dr. Grogg received her Doctor of Pharmacy from Mercer University, Southern School of Pharmacy and completed a clinical practice residency at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA. She also completed a 2-year fellowship in pharmacoeconomics at Sandoz Pharmaceuticals Corporation and the University of South Carolina.

Genzyme

James Geraghty is Senior Vice President North American Strategy and Business Development.  In this role he oversees strategic and business development initiatives for Genzyme and for Sanofi’s Pharmaceuticals businesses based in North America.  

He was President of Genzyme Europe from 1998-2002, and General Manager of Genzyme’s cardiovascular business from 2003-2008.  From 2008-2010 he oversaw strategic initiatives in emerging markets and led most of Genzyme’s major strategic transactions.

Mr. Geraghty also oversaw Genzyme’s Humanitarian Assistance for Neglected Diseases program.  He served as Co-Chair of the executive committee for BIO 2007 and a founder of the Partnering for Global Health Forum.  He is currently on the boards of MMV North America and Bio Ventures for Global Health.

Mr. Geraghty was earlier Chairman and CEO of GTC Biotherapeutics, which he took public in 1993.  Prior to that he led healthcare strategy teams at Bain and Company and early stage investments for Bain Capital.  A graduate of the Yale Law School, he holds a masters degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University.

Ms. Green has extensive experience as a published researcher and NSF grant manager at UNC's world-renowned Computer Science Department.  Since joining InnerOptic in 2004, Ms. Green has secured and managed multiple NIH SBIR grants, managed the successful FDA clearance for InnerOptic's AIM needle guidance device, managed the successful AIM clinical trial at the Carolinas Medical Center, co-authored multiple research publications, co-invented multiple patents, and led the integration of multiple technologies into InnerOptic's products.

Steve is currently a Venture Partner at Lilly Ventures, following more than 25 years of drug discovery experience at both multinational pharmaceutical companies and biotech organizations. Prior to joining Lilly Ventures in 2009, Steve was Senior Vice President, Research and Development, at Serenex, Inc. where he was also a co-founder.  There he recruited and led a team in developing a novel discovery technology and applied it to a project that advanced from a novel screen to first patient dosed in just over three years. This novel orally-active Hsp90 inhibitor was the subject of strong interest across the industry and led to the acquisition of Serenex by Pfizer in April 2008.

Prior to joining Serenex, Steve was Site Director, Sphinx Labs, Eli Lilly where he oversaw lead generation efforts in the areas of combinatorial chemistry, automation, high-throughput screening, biomolecular research, and information technology.  There he was a key member of a small team that developed and executed a strategy to partner Lilly’s expertise in high-throughput chemistry with three Japanese pharmaceutical companies with an aggregate value of more than $75MM.  
Steve started his career in 1982 at the Squibb Institute for Medical Research as a medicinal chemist where he was involved with multiple projects in cardiovascular disease and inflammation.

Steve is an author/co-author of more than 40 papers and 60 patents.  He received his B.S. in chemistry from Central Michigan University and his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  Steve sits on the boards of Cerulean Pharma, FORMA Therapeutics, Hydra Biosciences, InnoCentive and Nimbus Discovery and is a board observer at Viamet.

Bill Hawkins assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer of Medtronic, Inc. in August 2007 and became Chairman of the Board in August 2008.  Hawkins was named President and Chief Operating Officer in May 2004 after joining Medtronic as Senior Vice President and President of Medtronic's Vascular business in January 2002.


Hawkins joined Medtronic from Novoste Corp., where he had been President and Chief Executive Officer since 1998. Earlier positions included Corporate Vice President and President of the Sherwood Davis and Geck organization of American Home Products; President of the Ethicon Endo-Surgery organization of Johnson & Johnson; President, Devices for Vascular Intervention and President U.S. Operations, for Guidant Corp.; and several increasingly responsible executive positions culminating in the presidency of the IVAC organization for Eli Lilly & Co. He began his medical technology career with Carolina Medical Electronics in 1977.


Hawkins received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical and biomedical engineering from Duke University in 1976 where he also conducted medical research in pathology. He received a Master of Business Administration Degree from the Darden School of Business, University of Virginia, in 1982.


Hawkins is a member of the Duke University Board of Trustees, the Board of Visitors of the Engineering School of Duke University and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

Dr. Jenner has 16 years of investment experience, interspersed with a successful medical career. He joined T. Ann-Marie Lynch is the Executive Vice President, Payment and Health Care Delivery at the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed).  In that role she manages the team that oversees the development of AdvaMed’s payment and coverage polices and positions on a wide range of Medicare and private health care issues.  Prior to joining AdvaMed, Ms. Lynch was the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary, Health Policy in ASPE.  She was the Staff Director of the U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on Ways and Means, Health Subcommittee where she played a key role in the development of major health care legislation.  Ms. Lynch was a Senior Policy Analyst at the Prospective Payment Assessment Commission (now MedPAC) and an Economist at the Health Care Financing Administration (now CMS).  She holds a B.A. from Fairfield University and an M.A. from Duke University, both in Economics.

Daniel Shaughnessy is currently a Program Administrator in the Susceptibility and Population Health Branch in the Division of Extramural Research and Training at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) in RTP, North Carolina. He manages a portfolio of grants related to DNA Repair and Mutagenesis, and on biomarker development and was the Program Administrator on initiatives within the NIH Genes, Environment and Health Initiative - Exposure Biology Program, to develop improved measures of biological response to environmental stressors.  He is the NIEHS contact for SBIR/STTR programs.  He did his postdoctoral work with Jack Taylor in the Laboratory of Molecular Carcinogenesis at NIEHS, carrying out research on the risk and protective effects of dietary factors on DNA damage in humans. He received his PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2002, working with David DeMarini at the USEPA on studies of the mechanisms of antimutagenesis in multiple model systems. He received an MSPH degree from UNC-CH in 2000.

Dr. Sirgo was responsible for managing the development and FDA approval of Zantac 75 while at Glaxo Wellcome, among other accomplishments. From 1996 to 1999, Dr. Sirgo was Senior Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing at Pharmaceutical Product Development, Inc. (NASDAQ:PPDI), a leading contract service provider to the pharmaceutical industry. Dr. Sirgo serves on the Board of Directors of Salix Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:SLXP), a specialty pharmaceutical company specializing in gastrointestinal products since 2008. Dr. Sirgo received his BS in Pharmacy from The Ohio State University and his Doctorate from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science.

John Ujvari is the SBIR Program Specialist with the North Carolina Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC). His primary responsibilities include counseling clients on the effective use of this federal funding program and supporting and promoting SBIR educational opportunities throughout the state via numerous outreach efforts. These efforts include the publication of a monthly SBIR-focused newsletter, planning and execution of training events statewide including two national –level events, meeting clients one-on-one and reviewing proposals prior to submission. He also leads the SBTDC's MBA summer internship program. Since joining the SBTDC in 2001, SBIR and STTR awards in North Carolina have increased 5-fold. During his tenure at the SBTDC, he was awarded the State Star Award by the Association of Small Business Development Centers and the Tibbetts Award by the Small Business Technology Council.


John earned his MBA degree from Wake Forest University's Babcock Graduate School of Management with concentrations in business development, marketing and IT management. During the MBA program he was a consultant with two start-up firms where he led the business development process, managed technical resources and directed product development and rollout efforts.


Prior to returning to graduate school, John held the position of Research Associate at Westat, a contract research firm in Rockville, Maryland. He was integrally involved in a number of large-scale NIH and NCI contract studies, primarily as a technical liaison between clients and database developers. John earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia.
