Biotech 2002 was the 11th annual conference celebrating the thriving
life sciences industry in North Carolina. The daylong event featured company
exhibits as well as expert panel discussions on the industry’s hot issues,
including: stem cell research, biotechnology in public health, genomics
challenges, the international marketplace, and life science investing.
A keynote address by Thomas B. Okarma,
Ph.D., M.D., President and CEO of Geron Corporation, kicked off the conference.
A publicly traded company, Geron was the first to focus exclusively on
the biology of aging and the development of therapeutic products for age-related
diseases.
A testament to the Triangle’s significant position in the life sciences
industry, Biotech 2002 was a tremendous success on a number of levels.
The strong turnout of over 800 attendees and the high quality of guest
speakers emphasize the valuable resources this region has to offer.
